Unit-I Vegetable Market To Shift To Bhagabanpur

Sources in the civic body said that 10 acres of land has been earmarked at Bhagbanpur on the outskirts of the State Capital city for the shifting purpose
Meanwhile, Raw Vegetable Traders Association in Bhubaneswar has wholeheartedly welcomed the move by BMC.“All the vegetable vendors are happy over the move. But there should be proper facilities like water, electricity and road connectivity in the new proposed area. We have no problems in shifting to the new place with all kinds of modern facilities,” said Kabiraj Swain, President of Raw Vegetable Business Association in Bhubaneswar.Notably, the Unit-I vegetable wholesale market has been running on four acres of land since 1957. As many as 49 wholesale vegetable vendors are doing business in the market. More than 200 trucks transport vegetables from the market to various places in the State. Though vendors and local people have been demanding the shifting of the market since 2007, space crunch had come on the way of an alternative location.
